We
now have proof that conservative activists are working in teams to get liberals
thrown out of Facebook – and Facebook is helping them.
As
we’ve read in the news, Fox News assembled teams of employees to set up fake
accounts and prowl the internet, pretending to be random private citizens,
attacking anyone who criticizes Fox News or their agenda.
We
also know that other conservative organizations are doing the same. A number of
right-wing attack groups are operating in Facebook, exploiting Facebook’s automated
“discipline” system which reacts automatically if any account receives multiple
complaints against it. Using this mechanism, the conservative attack team can file
multiple complaints and get a liberal banned from using Facebook features, and
there is no appeal process.
Also,
some conservative websites are in fact getting special protection from
Facebook, which can’t be done by a machine: a living person, a moderator, must
have decided to afford them this protection. Two such sites are Conservative
Daily and OMG America, both of which get special protection from Facebook.
Members of these groups have launched their lynch mobs into cyberspace,
silencing liberal voices by getting them thrown out of Facebook.
Another
group getting protection is a hard-core anti-abortion site, Pro-Life vs.
Pro-Choice Debate Forum. They actually use their site name to entice pro-choice
members into posting there, so they can have them banned.
Now
a new entry has arrived: Texans For Abbott, the site supporting Greg Abbott,
the rightwing lawyer who is running for Texas Governor against Wendy Davis.
Here’s the site: https://www.facebook.com/TexansForAbbott . The members of the
site are working very, very quickly not only to attack Davis but to get anyone
who supports her thrown out of Facebook.
Again,
these sites cannot be getting special protection just from the automated
Facebook monitors. The actual human moderators must be assisting them in this
censorship effort. So the question is…why?
I know of one liberal member who has set up
five different accounts – because four other accounts have already been burned
out by the lynch-mob attacks, even though there was no violation of Facebook’s
laughably vague rules. And then the Facebook people complain that a hundred
million of their “members” are fakes and dupes.
Facebook
could have been a superb venue that Americans could use to debate all of
today’s contentious issues. Instead, no debate is possible, because as soon as
conservatives see an opponent or hear a contrasting view, they go berserk and
demand that Facebook destroy them. And Facebook complies. So conservatives have
yet another place where they can hide from reality and censor opponents. And if
Facebook continues to gain a reputation as a place where anyone daring to
challenge the Tea Party can be banned, then it will continue to lose market
share to new social networking sites.
